چکیده

We consider (2, 0) theory on a space-time of the form R× T , where the first factor denotes time, and the second factor is a flat spatial five-torus. In addition to their energy, quantum states are characterized by their spatial momentum, ’t Hooft flux, and Sp(4) R-symmetry representation. The momentum obeys a shifted quantization law determined by the ’t Hooft flux. By supersymmetry, the energy is bounded from below by the magnitude of the momentum. This bound is saturated by BPS states, that are annihilated by half of the supercharges. The spectrum of such states is invariant under smooth deformations of the theory, and can thus be studied by exploiting the interpretation of (2, 0) theory as an ultra-violet completion of maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on R × T . Our main example is the A-series of (2, 0) theories, where such methods allow us to study the spectrum of BPS states for many values of the momentum and the ’t Hooft flux. In particular, we can describe the R-symmetry transformation properties of these states by determining the image of their Sp(4) representation in a certain quotient of the Sp(4) representation ring.

We consider dimensionally reduced three-dimensional supersymmetric Yang– Mills-Chern–Simons theory. Although the N = 1 supersymmetry of this theory does not allow true massive Bogomol'nyi–Prasad–Sommerfield (BPS) states, we find approximate BPS states which have non-zero masses that are almost independent of the Yang–Mills coupling constant and which are a reflection of the massless BPS states ...

BPS bound states , supermembranes , and T - duality in M - theory ∗ Jorge

This is an introductory review on the eleven-dimensional description of the BPS bound states of type II superstring theories, and on the role of supermembranes in M-theory. The first part describes classical solutions of 11d supergravity which upon dimensional reduction and T-dualities give bound states of NS-NS and R-R p-branes of type IIA and IIB string theories. In some cases (e.g. (q1, q2) ...

1 / 4 BPS States andNon – Perturbative Couplings in N = 4 String Theories

We compute certain (2K + 4)–point, one–loop couplings in the type IIA string compactified on K3 × T 2 , which are related to the topologi-cal index Tr(−1) J L +J R J L J R 2K+1 q L 0 q L 0 on this manifold. Their special feature is that they are sensitive to only short and intermediate BPS mul-tiplets. The couplings derive from underlying prepotentials of the form G [2K+4] (T, U) ∼ (∂ V) 2K ln ...

On Central Charges and Hamiltonians for 0 - brane dynamics ∗

We consider general properties of central charges of zero-branes and associated duality invariants, in view of their double role, on the bulk and on the world volume (quantum mechanical) theory. A detailed study of the BPS condition for the mass spectrum arising from toroidal compactifications is given for 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 BPS states in any dimension. As a byproduct, we retrieve the U-duality i...
